About This Site
This site came about due to me launching another site in 2004 called Baedeker's Old Guide Books. Having quite a few Guidebooks and some Atlases, the idea for this site materialized, and I acquired the domain name. It's only in Oct, 2006 that I really attempted to complete it. Across the internet there are few sites that give any information on old guidebooks and old Atlases. This site caters for the collector and historian, but the appeal is much greater. I plan to put old maps from some of my Guidebooks and Atlas on this site which will appeal to genealogist. Eventually my other site Baedeker's Old Guide Books will join this site in the same hosting.
11th Nov 2006: This site and the domain and hosting oldguidebooks appears on the Internet.
This site is one site of mine to use Dynamic Web Templates (DWT), Include Menus and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). I would like to acknowledge the below two people who have provided me with the inspiration and knowledge to do so. These sites have great web design resources and tutorials.
Pat Geary of Genealogy Web Creations
Tina Clarke of AccessFP - FrontPage Resource Website
I would also like to acknowledge Duncan Hill, who through his knowledge of styling menus, demonstrated the gold hover affect of the menu. I thank Duncan for allowing to use it. He also reviewed my CSS and html. An provided feedback during this sites development. As gratitude, I have provided the following link to a site that he designed and maintains.
Lastly I would like to thank Geert van Loon for allowing me to use a gold line graphic which I sampled from an image of a cover of an old travel guide "The Nile - Notes for Travellers in Egypt" with gold guilt borders, which I seen on his site.
